TrackMan Range Server IPMI Access Procedure


1           Introduction:

The increased security provided by the installation of a UniFi Dream Machine Pro (security device) allows TM staff access to the IPMI interface of a server for various service, support, and development tasks.


This can be done via 2 methods:

  1. Remote Access to site and DMP via Link Manager (Connect to All)
  2. Azure VPN Tunnel (work in progress)

2           Software and Remote Tools Required:

The following list itemizes the required software to gain access to the IPMI interface.


Software – Installed on your PC (Windows Based):

  • Web Browser – (Google Chrome)
  • Terminal Software for SSH – (Putty or Mobaxterm)



  • Link Manager installed and an account
    • Alternate – Remote Desktop access to Azure PC for VPN Tunnel
  • UniFi Dashboard Account Info
  • IPMI Interface Account Info
    • Username: ADMIN
    • Pw: Nextronipmi1
  • Server Account Info – Username and Password (for server SSH access)

3           Open a Web Browser (Chrome) – Link Manager

  1. Navigate to the Link Manager connection:
  2. Login to Link Manager with your credentials
  3. Locate the Range you wish you access, select it and then select “Connect All”

  1. Ensure you are connected – you should see the following indication on Link Manager:

4           Open a Web Browser (Chrome) - UniFi Dashboard

  1. Navigate to the UniFi Dashboard for the Dream Machines -
  2. Sign In using UniFi Dashboard Account.
      1. Email:
      2. Pw: Stubbeled2950
  3. Locate the Range you wish to access
  4. You will have a tile view or list view, from the list – locate the range and select it.4.PNG
  5. Select the Network from the center of the screen.                                    4-1.PNG
  6. Navigate to the “Clients” tab on the left side of the page and select it.                                        4-2.PNG
  7. Depending on the controller version – you may not see what port it is connected to. If that is the case, you may have to SSH into the Range server and Render server and run the following command. By process of elimination (or a device that does not respond – where the IPMI interface may be operational).
      1. Type the following in the SSH session, you will need the sudo password.
          1. sudo ipmitool lan print | grep "IP Address"
      2. If IPMI is not installed or enabled and configured, escalate ticket to have ipmitool installed and configured.
  8. Select the IPMI device you wish to connect to by clicking on the Device Name4-8.PNG
  9. In the panel on the right, hi-lite and copy the IP Address.4-9.PNG
  10. Paste this into the address bar of the Chrome Web Browser

5           Access IPMI via Web Browser

  1. Locate the Chrome Web Browser window you just pasted the IPMI IP address into and hit enter.5-1.PNG
  2. Locate the “Advanced” button and press it. A message at the bottom of the page will display indicating that the server could not prove its IP address and its security certificate should not be trusted.
      1. Select the “Proceed to (unsafe)” link at the bottom.5-2.PNG 
  3. This will take you to the IPMI login screen for the server – login with the Username and Password5-3.PNG
        1. Username: ADMIN
        2. Password: Nextronipmi1


6           IPMI Remote Control – Power Control

  1. Select “Remote Control”
  2. Select “Power Control”
  3. Select the option below and then “Perform Action”6-3.PNG

7           IPMI Remote Control – Console Redirection (Open Java Console Locally)

  1. Select “Remote Control”
  2. Select “Console Redirection”
  3. Select “Launch Console”7-3.PNG
  4. A Java file is downloaded, and you are prompted to keep or discard the file – select “Keep”.7-5.PNG
  5. Double Click to open the file “launch.jnlp”                                                        7-55.PNG
  6. You will be prompted with a Security Warning asking you to Continue – select “Continue”.7-6.PNG
  7. You will be prompted to run the Java Application, select “Run”.7-7.PNG
  8. The application will start, and the redirected console output will be in the Java window.7-8.PNG
  9. The Java console window – there are similar options on the top of the window:
    1. Power Control
    2. Virtual Keyboard


8           IPMI Remote Control – iKVM/HTML5 Console (Open HTML Console Locally)

  1. Select “Remote Control”
  2. Select “iKVM/HTM5”
  3. Select “iKVM/HTM5” from the page.9-3.PNG
  4. This redirects a console to a HTML browser session very similar to the Java version. The main difference is that the Java version allows you to mount media remotely (remote image upgrade as an example) and then operate the server from the same window.
